11/29/2025 The Cowboys are on a three-game win streak. After beating the Raiders, the went on to have big come-from-behind wins against last year’s two Super Bowl teams, the Eagles and Chiefs. At the beginning of the season, the problem wasn’t the offense. George Pickens has turned out to be a great WR, and Javonte Williams came out of nowhere to be a solid RB. Their defense was horrible, though, and was at the bottom of the league. Losing Micah Parsons was a big reason, and starting the season with injuries to a few starters. Still, it was bad! Also, the have their third different defensive coordinator in the past three years, so changing schemes matters too. The Micah Parsons trade got us DT Kenny Clark and a couple of first rounders. At the trade deadline, we were able to get DT Quinnen Williams! This guy has been incredible! Jerry Jones, at the time Parsons was traded, said the Cowboys could be better off. Most sports talk guys I listened to laughed at the idea, and so did I. The Dallas Cowboys couldn’t afford to pay Micah $48 million per year, though, without sacrificing depth. Nobody doubts that he’s a good player, but I was fine with the trade. The NFL has a hard salary cap, and everyone has to deal with it. I like the salary cap. I ALWAYS had a problem with the Cowboys defense these past few years, though, even with Micah Parsons. The issue is running between the tackles. If you can do it on offense, you win. If you allow it on defense, you lose. Emmitt Smith became a three-time Super Bowl champion, and all-time leader in rushing yards, because he had a great offensive line. On defense, they had DTs Russell Maryland, Tony Casillas, and Leon Lett. Not too shabby. These past few years, it hasn’t been strong enough. In 2019, they used their top pick (which was a 2nd rounder) on DT Trysten Hill. In 2022, the traded for DT Jonathan Hankins from the Raiders. In 2023, the used their first rounder on DT Mazi Smith. There were high hopes with all these guys, but none of them panned out. Defensive tackle is not easy to peg for future superstars. Ndamukong Suh, Warren Sapp, and Aaron Donald don’t grow on trees. They are elite, and if you have a great one, you’re way better at stopping the run. Since getting DT Quinnen Williams, the Cowboys are playing a lot more five-man fronts with three DTs. I like what I see. You can see the pocket collapse more often from the middle, and they’re way, way better at stopping the run. The Cowboys are 3 – 0 since Quinnen Williams came over. They can thank LB Logan Wilson who quietly came over, and a few guys who came off the injury list. The video here was made by a comedic Broncos fan and, like me, he didn’t think the Cowboys would do good for the rest of the year, but they’ve turned it around. They still have an uphill battle to make the playoffs, but at least there’s hope for the future. I shit you not when I say I think Emmitt Smith was better for the Cowboys than Barry Sanders would’ve been. I’ve had this debate with different people over the years. With Emmitt, you could always count on a steady four or five yards everytime he touched the ball. He could run regularly between the tackles. With Barry? He was a pinball, and WHEN he broke one free, it always looked amazing, and it made the Sports Center highlights. But Barry would also have a lot of runs that made no yards at all. The NFL didn’t track stats on this before 1994, but in Sanders’ last five years, he had 759 rushes that had no gain or were negative. It’s fun to watch him bounce around every which direction, but he was never going to be the the type of running back to take the ball, run straight ahead, hit a defender, then stretch it out for a couple of more yards. That’s what wins in January, and that’s what wins championships. Jim Brown, Franco Harris, Earl Campbell, Larry Csonka, John Riggins, Roger Craig, Christian Okoye, Jerome Bettis, and Marshawn Lynch were all physical runners. Not all Super Bowls, but they helped their teams control the line of scrimmage, and they helped their teams succeed. One the flip end, defenses who control the line of scrimmage do great. I like what the Cowboys have, and it feels great to see that our opponents aren’t having field days running between the tackles anymore …
11/17/2025 Raiders play the Cowboys tonight on Monday Night Football! Should be a good game …
11/5/2025 I had such a great time watching game 7 of the World Series! There was a tavern down the street from Chaffey College I used to go to in between classes with a couple of friends back in the nineties. I went there, and watched the game from the patio. It was a lot of fun, and everybody was really, really into the game! It was back and forth, and everybody was losing hope going into the ninth down 4 to 3. Then the home run, then the extra innings, then the other home run! It was such a great time! Go Dodgers!

9/19/2025 The NBA season starts next month, and there’s been a lot of talk that the Clippers are screwed. These guys say it might not affect them this year, but it seems clear to a lot of experts that the Clippers circumvented the salary cap rules. The owner, Steve Balmer, essentially gave Kawhi Leonard $28 million extra in a side contract for a company he didn’t have to endorse or work for. What’s worse is that Mark Cuban (former majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks) tried to stick up for Balmer in a recent podcast. Cuban said that if it was shady, Balmer would’ve kept pooring money into the suspect company. Based on Cuban’s comments, they investigated and found out that’s exactly what happened. It’s still early so no one knows what’s going to happen, but the Clippers could lose draft picks and pay heavy fines. Something like this happened with the Minnesota Timberwolves many years ago …
